How to Make Blueberry Peach Cobbler

To make this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

  • Flour: This is the primary ingredient in the cobbler topping, providing structure. It’s what makes the cobbler topping cake-like and fluffy.
  • Sugar: Adds sweetness to the cobbler topping and balances the natural tartness of the blueberries and peaches.
  • Salt: A small amount is used to enhance the other flavors in the cobbler and balance the sweetness.
  • Brown Sugar: It adds a rich, caramel-like sweetness to the recipe. It also gives a slightly moist texture to the cobbler topping.
  • Cinnamon: This warm, aromatic spice adds depth of flavor, complementing the fruits and the sweetness of the cobbler.
  • Baking Powder: This is a leavening agent that helps the cobbler topping rise and become fluffy.
  • Skim Milk: Adds moisture to the cobbler dough, helping to bind the dry ingredients together. Using skim milk keeps the dish light.
  • Butter: Adds richness and flavor to the cobbler topping. When it melts in the oven, it creates steam pockets which contribute to the fluffiness of the dough.
  • Blueberries: These add a beautiful color, a burst of flavor, and a slightly tart contrast to the sweetness of the cobbler. They also contribute to the filling’s juiciness.
  • Canned Sliced Peaches: The main fruit in the dish, peaches provide a sweet, slightly tangy flavor and soft texture. Using canned peaches adds convenience, as they are already peeled and sliced.

Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, we will use the following process:

  • Prep. Preheat oven to 350*. Melt butter in a 1 or 1 ½ qt casserole dishIn a medium bowl, combine all remaining ingredients except peaches and blueberries. Mix well. Pour batter into center of melted butter. Gently sprinkle peaches and blueberries over all.
  • Bake. Bake for 45 minutes.
  • Enjoy! Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks for Perfect Blueberry Peach Cobbler

Use any type of fruit. This recipe is very adaptable to what you have on hand – from frozen, fresh, or canned fruit. There are a few differences in using each type of fruit, so please consider our notes below when choosing fresh, canned, or frozen fruit.

Using Canned Fruit in Cobbler. The recipe below calls for canned peaches, so no swap is necessary. To use canned, instead of fresh, blueberries, opt for blueberries canned in a light syrup – do not use blueberry pie filling, as it will be too sweet.

Using Fresh Fruit in a Cobbler. The recipe below calls for fresh blueberries, so no modifications need to be made. To use fresh peach slices, slice peaches thinly. I like peach skin in my cobbler, but if you prefer peach pie without peach skins, you’ll likely also prefer cobbler without peach skins, too. Removing is fine!

Using Frozen Fruit in Cobbler. To use frozen fruit in this cobbler, let fully defrost before using. Try to not cook the frozen fruit soft – let it come to room temperature on its own, to prevent the fruit from releasing too much liquid.

How To Store Baked Cobbler.

  • This cobbler is fabulous for leftovers – it reheats like a dream, and can be frozen for dessert on a meal train, and can easily be made ahead and reheated before dinner!
  • In Refrigerator. This cobbler can be stored in the refrigerator, covered with plastic wrap or in an airtight container, for up to four days.
  • In Freezer. This dessert can be frozen in an airtight container for up to four months.
  • When reheating, dessert can be baked from frozen, or thawed in the refrigerator overnight.
  • To Reheat. To reheat, microwave or bake at 350 until piping hot.

Recipe FAQ’s

The top of the cobbler will brown and slightly crisp, and the peaches will be bubbling hot when done.

You can assemble this cobbler ahead of time and wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to bake.
